The project named “the house of Baranivka” was started in 2010 in Baranivka village, Shyshatsky district of Poltavska region. A group of volunteers founded it as a training center and a community building for the organization “Osnovy svobody” (Foundations of Freedom). Their guiding principle was to become the change they wanted to see in the world.

 The territory of the project is rich in diverse landscape and beautiful sceneries. There are fields, hills and little gully forests by the house, as well as Psel river and a big pinewood in two kilometres.

The house has not become a community center, but in warm seasons its infrastructure and the territory of 1,5 hectares is used for different training events, workshops, camps, art residences, eco tourism, volunteering and building camps. There is a little emergent dog shelter for cats and dogs.

In recent years, the area and infrastructure have been cared by one person. There is also a wood workshop available in work-free hours. The house is being made of a wooden frame filled with straw blocks. Part of it, namely, a hostel room, kitchen, and toilet, are available for guests. One can also use a hall and live in tents in warm seasons.

The household is kept according to the standards of waste re-circulation: proper bio washing detergents are being used, an eco drain system works in the house, street toilets are adapted to making bio compost, waste is being sorted. Vegetables are grown with the use of Hügelkultur and drip irrigation. Guests can only visit the house when they abstain from drinking, using drugs, and behaving aggressively.

The house was created for all-round cultural, spiritual, intellectual, and physical development. Here, people can acknowledge the interconnection of natural processes and their own impact, develop tolerance and awareness in life.
