Settlement description:
Kedrivka ecosettlement was founded in 2005 based on Lukyanivka village in Kyiv region, Baryshivsky district. The founders purchased a piece of land, registered it as their property and started working on restoring the soil, ecological balance, and biodiversity. Having explored this way of living more deeply, they gained considerable experience with eco building, autonomous living, permaculture, homeschooling, sociology and economics of eco villages.
At the moment, it is home to a family of six. They are open to those willing to move in and learn to live like them.
Kravchenko family farm is fully autonomous. They aimed to find the solutions that would minimize time and resource use for keeping the land and buildings working, well-tended, and efficient, thus saving the owners vaulable time for active and creative life.
For example, Kravchenko maternity home was made of straw bags. It is powered by the sun energy only, has autonomous water supply, sewers, and the communications based on physical law.
Their vegetable garden is a symbiosis of different biological theories with the local conditions and family needs. 2 hectares in size, it is quite enough for a family of six. Its plants are diverse and fruitful, they don’t need much care, as the family grows them in the best natural conditions. Quite the same way, this settlement is a place for horses who also live in maximally natural conditions. One can see it all during an excursion called “Ecoshliakh” (Eco way) that inspires to choose eco solutions in life. You are invited to discover different aspects of sustainable life: from building to cosmetics, from different diets to conscious parenthood, from natural horse farming to task budgeting.
The two unique activities of Kedrivka are straw bag building and making straw building material. The latter is in fact brick-shaped straw bags that are suitable not only for typical frame housing but also for frame-free building.
Currently, the village is focused on several topics:
- accepting new settlers and creating better conditions for adaptation on the land;
- growing organic rye for grains and straw bags;
- harvesting, processing, and selling wild plants such as apples (grown from seeds), other fruits, berries, mushrooms, and herbs;
• educational events about eco building, sun power, land ecosystems, village income, socialization and education for children, healthcare in eco settlements, healthy, renovating, and self-developing practices that helps adapt in new surroundings.
